San Diego Car Accident Injures Two Bicyclists :: Southern ...

Two teenagers riding their bikes sustained injuries in a San Diego car accident the morning of November 18, 2009 after a driver swerved into their lane, North County Times reports. California Highway Patrol officials said the two boys -- ages 14 and 13 -- were riding westbound on Bear Valley Parkway in Escondido, California. They were both single-file in the bike lane, when a tan-colored SUV swerved directly in front of them. One of the boys veered to the right and struck the curb. The other boy ran into the cyclist ahead of him and got thrown off his bike.

The female driver stopped to ask if the boys were alright, but left the scene when they told her they needed assistance. The 14-year-old boy sustained injuries to his right leg, arm and shoulder while the 13-year-old boy had multiple bruises and a broken nose. The hit-and-run suspect is being described as a "petite Latino woman" with shoulder-length hair in a ponytail, acne scars on her face and speaking with a Spanish accent. If you witnessed this accident, please call Oceanside CHP officials at 760-757-1675.

Hit-and-Run Accident Injures Children

My heart goes out to these two teens who have gone through a traumatic experience. I'm appalled that this woman caused this accident, saw that the boys were injured, and then left the scene when the boys actually asked her for help. Talk about afraid to take responsibility! I hope neither of the teens sustained serious injuries and wish them both the very best for a quick and complete recovery.

In 2007, 49 injuries were reported in the city of Escondido as a result of bicycle accidents , according to CHP's Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS). In San Diego County, 11 deaths and 797 injuries happened in 2007 involving bicycle accidents. Also, countywide, 268 deaths and 14,641 injuries were reported as a result of car accidents during that same year.
