The car insurance laws in Texas are said to be quite simple. It follows a common formula of 25/50/25 cover plan, which is the minimum and common to all vehicles. Simply stated this means the for $25,000 minimum, it covers the liability for injury of one person of the third party for only one incidence of accident; and $50,000 for two injured persons and $25,000 for damage to the property of the third party.
If the liability remains within the minimums there will be no problem, but if the costs becomes more than the coverage, that extra money will have to be paid by you. Therefore to circumvent such situation you have to discover how to pay the least amount for a car insurance to get the best out of it. For this you have to do some comparison shopping in order to find out all the offers that are available from several car insurance companies. You don’t have to sweat much on this as there is a website where you have to log in and enter some information about you and your car. On submission of such information a calculation will be performed by the site to give you the premiums of several car insurance companies.
Texas implements its car insurance policy very strictly. To verify your car insurance the law enforcement agents are using a special insurance verification system. Through this system all information on your car insurance will come straight from the DMV. This DMV information is gathered from all the auto insurance companies. Therefore any fake car insurance will not show up in the DMV database, as a result you will be caught red handed if you do not have proper car insurance.
Just as the law of Texas is strict against car insurance offenders; so the amount of fine that you have to shell out if your car insurance is not updated. If it is you first time offence it will cost you $350. Any subsequent offence will cost you $1,000 and in addition your licenses will be suspended and the car confiscated. A step further the laws gets even stricter which will require you to pay penalty for three subsequent years; even though you amend yourself by obtaining car insurance after being caught.
Therefore going without car insurance is not good for health in Texas. The only way that is open for you is to find ways to find a car insurance where the payout is relatively low. In order to find one you have to get quotes from several insurance companies online. You can then use your driving record to get a lower premium.
You can bargain for a lower premium if you can fulfill the following:
- Have a good credit record
- If you insure more than one car with the insurance company
- If you can install additional safety features in your car
- If you have been dealing with the company for all your insurance needs for sometimes
- If you are in a profession that requires less of car traveling.
If you can satisfy some of the above requirements, you can bargain for a lower car insurance premium.
